Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy

Journal of Educational Science and E-Learning (JESE) is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, integrity, and continued accessibility of all published content. The journal implements electronic backup and digital preservation strategies through LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN).

JESE's published content is preserved through distributed digital archiving mechanisms designed to maintain copies of published materials independently of the journal's primary publishing platform. In addition, the journal's database, publication files, and related metadata are periodically backed up on the publisher's server infrastructure.

Published articles are maintained in stable digital formats, particularly PDF, together with their associated bibliographic metadata and publication information. Where applicable, preservation mechanisms may also retain other essential digital components required to maintain the scholarly record.

Digital Preservation and Archiving Systems

JESE utilizes the following preservation mechanisms:

  • LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) — provides distributed and decentralized preservation of journal content through participating archival systems, reducing dependence on a single server or hosting environment.

  • PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) — provides preservation services for journals using Open Journal Systems (OJS), helping ensure that published content remains accessible and recoverable over the long term.

  • Publisher Server Backup — the journal's database, article files, and related publication data are periodically backed up as part of the publisher's internal electronic backup strategy.

JESE will make reasonable efforts to maintain these preservation mechanisms and monitor their availability as part of the journal's ongoing digital preservation strategy.

Metadata Preservation and Interoperability

JESE provides article and journal metadata through the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). This supports metadata harvesting, interoperability with scholarly information systems, indexing services, repositories, and other digital discovery platforms.

OAI-PMH metadata availability supports the discoverability and interoperability of the journal's scholarly content but does not itself constitute a complete digital preservation system. The journal therefore maintains OAI-PMH alongside its dedicated archiving, preservation, and backup mechanisms.

Continuity of Access

These digital preservation mechanisms are implemented to minimize the risk of permanent loss of published content and to support the continued availability, accessibility, and integrity of the journal's scholarly record in the event of technical failure, server disruption, data loss, migration, or changes in publishing infrastructure.

JESE is committed to maintaining access to its published content for the long term and will make reasonable efforts to ensure that preserved content remains identifiable, retrievable, and accessible to readers and the scholarly community.

The journal's archiving and digital preservation practices may be reviewed and updated periodically to respond to developments in digital preservation standards, publishing technology, and recognized scholarly communication practices.
